Tribal Tattoo Designs- What Is The Future Of Tribal
Tattoos?

Are tribal tattoo designs a fad that is now in decline? Or
are tribal tattoos here to stay for as long as people get
tattoos? It's hard to predict the future, but most things,
whether it's fashions, music or tattoos, there are cycles.
Tribal tattoos became very popular over the last two decades,
but more recently there's been a bit of backlash.
My own opinion is that tribal tattoos are here to stay, but
that their popularity may never reach the same level as a few
years ago. This is not a bad thing for people who are really
into tribal tattoo designs. It's only an example of something
that went through a period of being a mega-trend and has
leveled off some.
We have to keep in mind that tribal tattoos, as the very
word "tribal" implies, are not new. They go back to the very
early days of human civilization in fact. One way to look at
the modern tattoo phenomenon, tribal tattoos in particular, is
that modern people feel a need to reconnect with ancient
rituals. Aside from tattoos, we can see this in certain musical
trends, such as techno and raves (though these also went
through a period of being very popular and have declined
somewhat).
Some people who get tribal tattoos are reconnecting with
their own heritage, or at least a piece of it. Many people
today are of mixed ancestry. For example, many Americans have
Native American blood, and they may want to express this part
of themselves by getting a tattoo from that heritage. The same
can be said of people with Chinese, Celtic, Polynesian or
African ancestors.
Of course, many people get tribal tattoos that do not
reflect their own background at all. They may simply feel drawn
to a certain symbol, whether it be Celtic knotwork, a Maori
tribal design or a Chinese style dragon. We live in a
multicultural world, so people feel free to "borrow" the art,
music, style of dress and tattoo designs of other cultures.
Some people resent this and feel that the cultural symbols of a
culture should not be taken by others, but it's probably too
late to expect this to change.
The fact is, the world is not going to return to a time when
people live isolated from one another -unless there's some kind
of collapse of civilization. So in all likelihood, tribal
tattoos will never go out of style. They are part of the
"anything goes" global culture that exists almost everywhere
today.
There are some people who do things like get tattoos simply
because it's trendy and seems like the cool thing to do. They
also most likely choose the way they dress and what kind of
music they listen to the same way. Tribal tattoos may come and
go as far as appealing to those who follow trends. However,
others choose tattoos based on a deeper inner calling, or to
express an authentic aspect of themselves. Tribal tattoos can
sometimes fulfill this kind of need, so for this reason there
will always be a demand for them.
